NEWS Update – One dead, many others rendered homeless In Abuja


One dead, many others rendered homeless as FCDA demolish Unguwan Saidu settlement (behind NAF Conference Centre) which is considered illegal because it distorts the ABUJA Masterplan.
According to our source, during the cause of the demolition, one person was said to have died after his house was crumpled upon him by the machines of the FCDA Development Control. The man who wasn’t named was said to be sleeping and unaware of what was going on outside while the FCDA officials gave them 30minutes to evacuate their belongings from the house. Unknowing to the officials, they commenced demolition while the victim was sleeping. He was said to have died while be rushed to the hospital.
When Abuja Facts visited the site on Friday morning, victims of the demolition were seen picking the rest of their belongings from the rubbles of the process which occurred on Thursday, February 1st, 2018. Speaking to one of the people on the site, he said the they were given 21days ultimatum to evacuate their things and it hasn’t been up to 21days before the demolition was carried out.
According to our findings, the FCDA Development Control gave the first demolition notice on October 5th, 2017 after which the second notice came on January 25th, 2018 where the residents were given the said 21-day ultimatum.
As at the time of filing this report, we could not reach any FCDA official to give us details about the process.
